The foundation stone for a nuclear power plant at Gorakhpur in Fatehabad district of Haryana is likely to be laid in January 2014.
The foundation stone is expected to be laid by Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India. The state government has already acquired 1,503 acre for setting up the plant and has also given compensation amounting to Rs 450 crore to the farmers whose land was acquired.
The project is being developed by Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) with an investment of Rs 23,502 crore.
Along with the plant, the Gorakhpur-Kajalheri road will soon be constructed to provide better connectivity to the people.
Further, Gorakhpur village will also be developed as a model village under corporate social responsibility, and for this a detailed action plan has been provided to NPCIL which will cover various issues, such as development of village, training to youths, women's development, education and health.
