Four companies have submitted bids for Chennai Metro Line-4’s underground electrical and mechanical (E&M), plumbing, and fire protection systems contract after Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) opened the technical bids.
The contract, designated as C4-E&M-06, is part of the larger 116.1 km Chennai Metro Phase-2 project, which aims to enhance urban connectivity through its various corridors. Line-4 of the project will span 26.09 km, linking Light House to Poonamallee Bypass through 30 stations. Of this, a significant 10 km segment will be constructed underground, connecting Power House Ramp to Light House Station via twin tunnels.
The current tender pertains to system works across eight underground stations on this route: Light House, Kutchery Road, Alwarpet, Bharatidasan Road, Boat Club, Nandanam, Panagal Park, and Kodambakkam. These stations are presently being developed by ITD Cementation India, which was awarded the civil contracts for underground packages UG-01 (5.15 km) and UG-02 (4.87 km) in January 2022.
The firms that have submitted bids for this specialised contract include Blue Star, IRCON International, Jakson, and Universal MEP Projects & Engineering Services, a subsidiary of Voltas..The E&M package is a critical component of the project, as it will ensure the operational readiness of these underground stations through installations of electrical systems, mechanical infrastructure, plumbing networks, and fire protection mechanisms.
