Gas Authority of India (GAIL) is
reportedly planning to lay a pipeline between Haldia in West Bengal and Bokaro
in Jharkhand. The 450 km long pipeline is likely to entail an investment of Rs.500
crore.
GAIL is expected to enter into an agreement
with the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation for gas co-operation in
West Bengal. An assessment of the medium and long-term gas demand in the State,
would be made. A techno-economic feasibility study would be carried out to
determine the viability of developing major pipeline infrastructure covering the
existing and potential gas markets in the State. The potential of gas supply to
residential, small industrial, commercial and transport sectors in major cities
would also be studied.
