Of the planned 24 GW of transmission capacity under the Green Energy Corridor (GEC) initiative, 20 GW has already been commissioned, and the remaining is expected to be completed soon.

“We have almost completed Phase-I of the Green Energy Corridor. Of 24 GW, 20 GW is already commissioned and the remaining is left because of some last mile certain issue like RoW (Right of Way). Out of eight states, four states have completed 100 percent work, another four have also completed some 90–94 percent of the work. Phase 1 will be completed very shortly,” an official said.

Launched in 2015, the GEC project includes both inter-state and intra-state transmission systems (ISTS and InSTS), along with Renewable Energy Management Centres (REMCs), reactive compensation, and storage systems. The project is backed by central financial assistance (CFA) for transmission infrastructure supporting renewable energy evacuation. For FY26, the scheme has a budget allocation of Rs 600 crore. It targets 9,767 ckm of transmission lines and 22,689 MVA of substation capacity across eight states.

The government also anticipates completing Phase II of GEC within the next two years. The second phase will facilitate the evacuation of 20 GW of renewable energy and spans across seven states—Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh.
