The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is on track to complete its fifth water treatment plant (WTP) unit at Chandu Budhera by December 2025, officials have confirmed.
The new unit, with a capacity of 100 million litres per day (MLD), is expected to become operational by January 2026, raising GMDA’s total water treatment capacity to 770 MLD—400 MLD at Chandu Budhera and 370 MLD at Basai. Currently, four WTP units at Chandu Budhera, each with a 100 MLD capacity, cater to large parts of the city.
The fourth unit, commissioned in April this year, significantly boosted water supply in localities such as Golf Course Road, MG Road, and Palam Vihar. However, several areas, especially Sectors 58–80, Sohna, and Gwal Pahari, continue to face shortages, depending heavily on tubewells and private tankers.
Around 40 percent of the construction work for the fifth unit is complete, though heavy rainfall recently disrupted progress. Officials said machinery has been procured, and waterlogging will soon be cleared to resume work. GMDA is also expediting the Sector 72 water boosting plant to strengthen supply.
