According to Directorate General of
Hydrocarbons, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation's gas discovery in the
Krishna Godavari basin off the Andhra coast holds 3.61 trillion cubic feet of
gas reserves.
The original gas in place for the five
identified layers considering the lowest known gas (LKG) is estimated to be
about 0.912-3.611 tcf when considered at maximum closure.
GSPC in 2005, claimed to have struck
20 tcf of gas reserves in the KG8 well (third well), named Deen Dayal, in the
shallow water block KG-OSN-2001/3. KG8 was drilled to a depth of 5,061 meters at
a water depth of 60 meters.
The fourth well, KG17, has been
drilled up to the depth of 5,801 metres and is currently under production
testing. The two wells drilled earlier - KG1 and KG11 was dry and
abandoned.
GSPC is to drill 14 wells in Phase I
of the exploration programme for the block.
