Germany's Uniper has signed a long-term agreement with India's AM Green to purchase up to 5,00,000 tonne of green ammonia annually, with the first shipment expected in 2028.
This strategic partnership is part of Uniper's efforts to provide sustainable, low-carbon molecules at scale to its customers. The agreement was finalised during the visit of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to India, reflecting growing economic ties between the two countries amidst rising global geopolitical tensions.
Uniper’s CEO, Michael Lewis, emphasised that the deal aligns with their strategy to deliver renewable and low-carbon energy solutions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also welcomed the agreement, highlighting its significance in India's goal of becoming a leading exporter of green hydrogen and ammonia.
