Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that the long-standing drinking water crisis in Mandrem constituency is close to being resolved, with the 30 MLD water treatment plant at Tuem set to become operational by March.
The CM made the statement during a high-level inspection of the Rs 64 crore facility along with Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar, stressing that the project is being fast-tracked to meet peak summer demand. The Tuem water treatment plant is a key component of the state government’s efforts to bridge a 50 MLD water shortfall in North Goa. Once operational, the plant will draw raw water from the Tillari reservoir and significantly improve water availability in the region. At present, residents of Mandrem receive tap water for only about 30 minutes every alternate day, causing persistent hardship. The new facility will initially ensure a guaranteed 12-hour daily water supply, marking a major improvement in living conditions.
Highlighting the importance of timely completion, CM Sawant said the government is closely monitoring progress to ensure delivery as promised. “The water treatment plant will be operational by March,” he said.
