The Government of India has fast-tracked multiple railway line projects in Chhattisgarh to enhance rail connectivity in the Ambikapur region, as reported by Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister of Railways, in response to an inquiry in the Lok Sabha.
The Union Minister detailed the progress of surveys conducted by the South East Central Railway's Bilaspur Division and outlined plans for new lines passing through Ambikapur. Notably, three major projects are in progress: the 80-km Boridand-Ambikapur doubling project, the 262-km Ambikapur-Ramanujganj-Barwadih new line, and the 218-km Sardega-Pathalgaon-Ambikapur new line.
Minister Vaishnaw also noted a significant rise in budget allocation for infrastructure in the state, from Rs 311 crore annually during 2009-2014 to Rs 6,925 crore in 2025-2026. He emphasised that the pace of track commissioning has also surged, with 1,189 km completed from 2014 to 2025. “The pace of commissioning new track in the State has increased significantly,” he said.
