The Indian government has announced the creation of three new multi-state cooperative societies to enhance sustainability and circularity in the dairy sector.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, who emphasised the importance of transitioning towards a sustainable and circular dairy ecosystem under the vision of "White Revolution 2.0." The meeting was attended by Union Ministers of State Krishan Pal Singh Gurjar and Muralidhar Mohol, along with officials from the NDDB and NABARD, signaling coordinated efforts across institutions.
The first cooperative society will focus on animal feed production, disease control, and artificial insemination. The second will develop effective models for dung management, while the third will work on circular utilization of dead cattle residues. These initiatives aim to improve efficiency, environmental responsibility, and farmer income.
Union Minister Amit Shah stressed that carbon credit benefits generated through these scientific and sustainable models should directly benefit farmers. He also underlined the need for integrated dairy cooperatives to enhance productivity and rural prosperity. The government’s approach reflects a multidimensional shift from traditional dairy practices to environmentally conscious, circular systems.
