The MoEF has granted environmental clearances for GMDC’s Umarsar mining project in Kachchh district of Gujarat.
The Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) has received the green clearances for its Umarsar mine which has an estimated lignite reserves of 21 million tonne. With this the company is likely to start the mining activity soon. The mine is spread across 5,402 acre and have an estimated production capacity of one million tpa.
Also, GMDC is planning to commence mining at Lakhpat Dhedadi lignite and limestone mines, in Kachchh having an estimated reserve of 50 million tonne and at Damlai Padal lignite mine in Bharuch with an estimated reserve of 19 million tonne, and has applied for mining lease in Ghala near Surat.
