Gujarat University (GU) has announced plans to establish a new medical college and a 300-bed hospital as part of a major development initiative. The decision was made during a joint meeting of GU's Board of Management and Executive Council.
The proposed medical facility, potentially to be located at the GMDC ground or another site in western Ahmedabad, will include an outpatient department and a helipad for future air ambulance services. The aim is to boost healthcare access and provide modern medical education, modeled after institutions like NHL Medical College.
GU Vice-Chancellor Nirja Gupta confirmed that land surveys of university-owned plots will be conducted, and expert consultations will guide final decisions. Approximately 25–35 percent of the GMDC ground may be allocated for the project, and budgetary provisions have already been made.
In a parallel initiative, GU also plans to set up a five-star hotel along with a hotel management institute near the Blind People's Association. These proposals were tabled during the meeting and are expected to receive approval soon.
