Hindustan Petroleum Corp (HPCL), has proposed to invest Rs 2,000 crore to add a 900 km pipeline network across India over the next three years.
The company intends to develop three pipelines connecting Rewari, Haryana, to Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh; Mangalore to Bangalore in Karnataka; and Awa to Salwas, near Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
The Rewari-Kanpur multi-product pipeline with 441.12 km length will have 8 million tpa capacity. The Mangalore-Hassan-Mysore-Solur LPG pipeline with 410 km length will have a capacity of 3.10 million tpa, while the multi-product Awa-Salwas pipeline will run for 92 km transporting upto 2.30 million tpa of fuel. The proposed investment plan will be financed through a combination of debt and cash on hand.
However, the project has already received Stage-l forest clearance for diversion of forest land in Haryana in November 2012, and in Uttar Pradesh in March 2013 from the regional offices of the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF).
In January 2013, HPCL invited bids for the construction of its 165 km Uran-Chakan-Shikrapur LPG pipeline project in Maharashtra. This pipeline is set to have a capacity of one million tpa.
Besides, BPCL and HPCL had already proposed to lay an LPG pipeline from their Mahul refineries to evacuate their LPG to Uran for which work is progressing. The proposed Uran to Chakan pipeline will be an extension of the Mahul to Uran pipeline.
Currently, the company operates 1,054 km Mundra-Delhi pipeline with 5 million tpa capacity and the 572 km Visakh-Vijayawada-Secunderabad pipeline with 5.38 million tpa capacity.
