The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) will begin a comprehensive restoration of Saroor Nagar Lake after obtaining the necessary government approvals, announced AV Ranganath, Commissioner of HYDRAA, on 21 January, 2026.
Originally covering 140 acres, the lake now spans 90 acres due to residential developments. It will focus on ecological restoration rather than cosmetic measures, and n efforts will target this remaining area, with plans to begin work by March and complete it within a year. Key initiatives include removing silt to improve water-holding capacity and groundwater recharge, streamlining inlets and outlets for better flood mitigation, and preventing sewage inflow through collaboration with the Hyderabad Water Supply & Sewerage Board.
The project will also enhance the lake’s surroundings by planting medicinal and native species, and creating parks, walking tracks, play areas, sports facilities, and open gyms. This restoration aims to improve the ecological health of the lake while ensuring it remains an asset for the community.
