Hindalco Industries, the metals flagship of the Aditya Birla Group, has announced growth plans for its aluminium operations in Odisha, with an investment of Rs 21,000 crore for a 3.6 lakh-tpa smelter expansion at its Aditya Aluminium complex in Sambalpur.
The company also inaugurated a 1.7 lakh-tonne-per-annum flat rolled products (FRP) and battery-grade aluminium foil manufacturing facility, worth Rs 4,500 crore. The facilities were inaugurated by Mohan Charan Majhi, the Chief Minister of Odisha. Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of Aditya Birla Group, commented, “India’s manufacturing growth depends on integration, value addition and sustainability." The new projects will support electric mobility, energy storage, and enhance domestic capabilities in high-grade aluminium products.
The battery-grade aluminium foil facility, India’s first of its kind, will support up to 100 GWh of lithium-ion cell manufacturing. These initiatives are part of a broader Rs 37,000 crore investment in Odisha, contributing to Hindalco’s Rs 55,000 crore growth plan across India.
