Hindalco’s copper division will make an investment of Rs 2,450 crore on two copper projects in Gujarat. These include an e-waste recycling facility at Dahej in South Gujarat which will produce 200 kilo tonne of copper annually. The company announced this on the side lines of the ongoing fourth Global RE-Invest summit at Gandhinagar.
In Phase-1, which entails an investment of Rs 2,000 crore, it plans to recover about 50 kilo tonne of copper, even as the plant will process close to 300-350 kilo tonne of scrap and e-waste annually.
The recycling plant will produce multi-metals including copper, silver, gold and other precious metals. This facility will help to salvage copper from e-waste, for the company which currently imports 90 percent of copper concentrates required for its smelter plant at Dahej. Expanding the upstream capacity will also help to serve the growing demand for copper in the country.
Dahej in Bharuch district also houses Birla Copper’s custom copper smelter as one of the largest single location smelters in the world.
