The Hyderabad Airport Metro (HAML) has initiated work on the model metro hub at Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) in Secunderabad, which is expected to be operational in two years.
The project will integrate three metro lines in a modern, multi-level facility spanning 30 acres, utilising both state and defence land. This development is being executed through a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The hub's design includes cellar parking and a ground level combining metro stations with a revamped bus complex.
The existing five-storey building at JBS Parade Ground, housing the green line, has already demonstrated mixed-use potential, including office spaces. A notable feature of the hub will be its architecture, with three separate metro stations connected by skywalks. This approach differs from the shared structure used at Ameerpet and Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS).
The new station, linking to Medchal, will be built near the existing JBS Parade Ground station, facilitating a seamless triad of interconnected lines. The integration of skywalks between the metro stations will allow for smooth passenger movement, and the nearby five acres of land will serve for parking, with additional defence land available for construction.
The PPP model ensures world-class infrastructure and commercial spaces, including shopping, dining, and co-working facilities, to serve the growing demands of urban professionals. The JBS hub represents a new era in transit-oriented development, combining metro, bus services, and commercial spaces to create a vibrant urban hub.
