Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with logistics player, Rhenus as it makes strides for expansion in the Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region) region.
Under this partnership, Rhenus will establish an advanced warehouse facility in Gurugram, Haryana, capable of storing and fulfilling over 7,000 products. The warehouse, with connectivity via rail, road, and air, is expected to go live early next year. It will boast top-of-the-line warehouse infrastructure, including cutting-edge storage and material handling systems.
This facility, spread over 1,50,000 sq. ft., will generate employment opportunities and prioritise sustainable practices, and is expected to fulfil hundreds of orders daily. Establishing the first fully outsourced central distribution centre for IKEA, it will be seamlessly integrated with electronic data interchange linked to Rhenus’ warehouse management system for efficient transactions.
Announcing its first foot down in Delhi NCR, the Swedish home furnishing company plans to scale but create a customer experience while showcasing its shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability. Ikea's expansion in India includes plans to open two shopping centres with integrated stores in Gurugram and Noida, with the Gurugram project expected to launch next year.
