Indian Railways has appointed companies from China, France and Spain to carry out feasibility study of the proposed three high-speed train routes.
The routes shortlisted are Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Kolkata and Mumbai-Chennai. The project worth Rs 2 lakh crore aims to reduce the travelling time between the metros with the introduction of the high-speed trains, which will run at a speed of about 300-kmph.
High Speed Rail Corporation awarded the contract to the Third Railway Survey and Design Institute (China), Systra (France) and Ineco (Spain) to carry out feasibility study of three high speed corridors.
As per the project award, the Chinese company will study Delhi-Mumbai route, the French company, Mumbai-Chennai corridor and the Spanish company will conduct the feasibility study of the route between Delhi and Kolkata.
The feasibility study for the three routes is estimated to cost about Rs 30 crore.
