The Indian Railways has received 30 investment proposals from private
companies for its various projects under PPP mode.
The companies have shown their keenness in various projects, including
bottling scheme, doubling, new lines and tracks.
The IR has identified 37 projects that are to be developed under PPP mode.
Some of these projects include – gauge conversion of Ahmedabad – Himmatnagar -
Udaipur (299 km) with an investment of Rs 742 crore, doubling of 22.71 km Ambala
cantonment-Dhapper in Haryana for Rs 100 crore, construction of new line in
Arrah-Bhabua in Bihar (122 km) for Rs 490 crore.
Of these 37 projects, around 19 are socially desirable, meaning as of now
there is no return on investment estimated for such projects. However, the IR
officials have asked private companies to chalk out plans to make such projects
commercially viable.
