Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) plans to set up a coal-handling
terminal through PPP model under BOT mode at Jogighopa in Bongaigaon district of
Assam.
IWAI is scouting for a private operator as it is impossible for the
government to run the terminal. The IWAI has 25 acre under its possession for
developing the facility and a jetty where consignments of coal could be loaded
and unloaded. The project to comprise warehouses — both open and closed, bank
protection, material-handling equipment and conveyor belt for coal handling.
Jogighopa, has been identified as the site for setting up the mechanised
inland water transport terminal as coal from Meghalaya could be easily
transhipped.
