The Indian Gas Exchange (IGX) has commenced gas trade from two new hubs at Dabhol and Jaigarh in Maharashtra, the country’s first nationwide delivery-based gas exchange.
With this, IGX now has five operational hubs; the other three are located at Dahej and Hazira in Gujarat and KG Basin in Andhra Pradesh.
The move is aimed at increasing the availability of natural gas from additional sources on the Exchange platform for the benefit of end-consumers. The exchange has started offering all the existing contracts -- monthly, fortnightly, weekday, weekly and daily-- at the new gas hubs from 20 April 2021.
Despite being located close to each other, the two new gas hubs will operate independently and with the implementation of unified tariff, customers will be able to avoid multiple tariffs for transportation of gas.
The Dabhol terminal is owned by GAIL (India) and has an operational capacity of five million tpa. The terminal currently supplies primarily to the western and southern states.
H-Energy through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Western Concessions, will shortly commence operations of India's first floating storage and regasification unit based LNG terminal project at the Jaigarh Port.
