1. Boolean Searches :

i. AND - Shows results where both terms on either side of the 'AND' operator are present. 'AND' must be in upper case. For example search term - delhi AND metro result - It will return records in which 'delhi' as well as 'metro' both are present.

ii. OR - Shows results where either term (or both terms) is present. 'OR' must be in upper case. For example search term - delhi OR metro result - It will return records in which either 'delhi' or 'metro' or both are present

2. Proximity Searches

A proximity search looks for terms that are within a specific distance from one another. For example, search term - 'delhi metro'~10 result - It will search for records where 'delhi' and 'metro' are found within 10 words of each other

3. Phrase searches

You can search phrases using double quotes. for e.g. 'delhi metro' result - It will return records where 'delhi metro' phrase is found.

Indian Railway Budget 2012: FARE hike

Dinesh Trivedi, Railway Mnister, on 14 March 2012, presented the Railway Budget in Parliament.

The budget focuses on strengthening rail safety, modernisation of railways etc. In order to improve safety, the Indian Railways proposes to eliminate all level crossings in the next five years. It will set up an independent railway safety authority.

Some of the highlights of the budget are:

• Sam Pitroda to head group on modernisation of Indian railways

• Propose to set up research & development council for Railways

• 12th Plan investment on railways at Rs 7.35 Lakh crore

• Railways to plough back dividend of Rs 20,000 crore into modernisation

• Rs 5.6 lakh crore for railway modernisation

• Railway Safety Fund Pegged At Rs 16,842 crore

• Focus on tracks bridges, telecommunications, stations and terminals

• Signalling system to be modernised and total investment to modernise signalling system at Rs 39,110 crore

• Gross Budgetary Fund at Rs 24,000 crore

• Annual Plan Outlay for FY13 at Rs 60, 100 crore

• To spend Rs 6,647 crore on track modernisation in FY13

• To Facilitate Running Of Heavier, Longer Freight Trains

• Trains' speed limit to be set at 160 kmph

• Double decker container trains also planned

• Investment of Rs 1.71 lakh crore in rolling stock in next five years; investment of Rs 18,193 crore in rolling stock in FY13

• To set up Indian Railway Station Development Corp

• New coaching complex In Panvel, Navi Mumbai

• High speed trains to be introduced for both passengers and freight

• To develop 100 station Via PPP route in next five years

• Allotted Rs 4,410 crore for capacity augmentation in FY13

• Propose to undertake 114 new line survey in FY13; allotted Rs 6,870 crore for new line projects In FY13

• To electrify 6,500 km of lines during 12th plan; Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla line to be electrified

• To convert all lines to meter gauge during 12th plan

• New lines to be set up for Kolkata Metro

• To convert DC To AC on Central Railway in Mumbai in FY13

• 75 new express trains and 21 new passenger trains to be introduced

• To start pilot project for Mumbai Rail Commercialisation

• All Garib Rath trains to have one special AC coach for differently abled persons.

• Expansion of suburban rail networks & addition of more services in Mumbai, Chennai & Kolkata

• Guru Parikarma special trains to cover Sikh pilgrimage centres of Amritsar, Patna and Nanded

• Fare hike in 10 yrs; 2p/km for suburban passengers; 5p/km sleeper class; 10p/km paisa for 3AC, chair; 15p/km 1AC; minimum platform ticket priced at Rs 5/unit; tickets prices hiked in 2nd class by 2 paise per km
