Indian Railways has reached a milestone of 99.2 percent electrification of its broad gauge network, bringing it close to full electrification.
This achievement was highlighted by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in a written reply to the Lok Sabha. The electrification process has rapidly accelerated since 2014, with 46,900 route kilometers electrified, more than double the 21,801 km completed in the 60 years prior. Currently, 14 railway zones, including Northern, Western, Central, and Eastern Railways, have achieved 100 ercent electrification, while 25 states and Union Territories are fully electrified.
Key states like Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka have also made significant progress. "Between 2014 and 2025, Indian Railways electrified 46,900 route kilometres, more than double the 21,801 route kilometres completed over nearly 60 years before 2014, as per data shared in the Lok Sabha.
