Indian Railways has successfully commissioned 118 Gati Shakti Multimodal Cargo Terminals across 18 states and union territories, surpassing its original target of 100 terminals for FY25.
The initiative aims to enhance freight movement by improving multimodal connectivity and reducing logistics costs. The Gati Shakti terminals, established under the government's national infrastructure plan, act as hubs for cargo consolidation and distribution, increasing accessibility to rail freight, especially in regions lacking direct connectivity. These terminals are developed in partnership with state governments and private players, with capacity tailored to regional industrial needs.
The Ministry of Railways highlighted the achievement, stating, "Strengthening India’s freight system with 118 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals, reshaping freight movement with seamless multimodal connectivity and lower logistics costs nationwide." The initiative, launched in 2021, is a significant step in reshaping India's logistics landscape.
