The Ministry of Railways has successfully commissioned a 56 km stretch of the 68 km Kadur–Chikkamagaluru–Belur railway line in Karnataka, enhancing rail connectivity to Chikkamagaluru’s remote hilly regions.
This milestone marks a significant step in the long-awaited infrastructure project aimed at providing Chikkamagaluru with its first comprehensive rail connection. The new line will improve access to the popular tourist town of Belurwill reduce the region's reliance on road transport and boost the local economy by facilitating the movement of goods, especially agricultural products, and tourism traffic. The stretch is expected to support faster, safer, and more affordable travel in the area.
With the completion of the remaining section, this line will better integrate central Karnataka into the state's wider rail network. This enhanced connectivity will also support the tourism sector, particularly around Belur’s UNESCO World Heritage-listed Chennakesava Temple.
