SIRI, an agricultural start-up focussed on millets, is setting up an integrated millet food processing unit in Telangana.
The plant will come up at Pothugal in Rajanna Sircilla district. It will initially focus on producing millet-based ready-to-eat products.
The company will initially invest Rs 15 crore in the unit. To begin with the company is setting up four lines of production facility by investing Rs five crore. The work on construction site has begun, and the production will begin in six to eight months.
In order to make the effort inclusive, the firm is setting up a back-end integration network, involving Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS).
The company is planning to tie up with 50-100 PACS in the next few months. It will provide the PACS with machinery to complete primary processing.
The firm will manufacture foxtail and fingertail millet flakes, cookies, chocos and other ready-to-eat products. The start-up will work with self-help groups and the Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) to strengthen its production capacities.
