British hospitality company InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is finally going to step up the presence of its luxury segment offerings in India. IHG currently has 36 properties in India, of which 24 are Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express, 10 Crowne Plazas and only two luxury InterContinentals.
The company is going to get more of its luxury brands to India. While mid-market segment will remain its mainstay here, the number of luxury properties in the pipeline should get in double digits in four years. IHF has one each InterContinental in Mumbai and Mahabalipuram, Chennai, and will get two to three more in the next 12 months, including one in Bengaluru.
IHG had in 2018 acquired mainstream luxury brand Regent, which it plans to bring to India along with boutique luxury brands Six Senses and Kimpton. Mumbai, Delhi and Goa could see the luxury Regent. Globally, there are only six Regent at the moment, in places like Singapore, Berlin and Beijing.
