JSW Energy, through its step-down subsidiary JSW Renew Energy Thirty Seven, has signed a 12-year battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA) with Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (RVUNL) for a 250 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage system. The project will be developed under Rajasthan’s build, own and operate (BOO) model.

As per the agreement, JSW Energy will supply power to the state at a tariff rate of Rs 2,24,000 per MW per month. In an exchange filing, the company emphasized its readiness for the project, citing its current total locked-in storage capacity of 29.3 GWh, which includes 2.9 GWh of battery energy storage and 26.4 GWh of pumped hydro storage. JSW Energy plans to ramp up its total energy storage capacity to 40 GWh by 2030.

This is JSW Energy’s second major power purchase agreement in a month. It also signed a 25-year PPA with Adani Electricity Mumbai for a 250 MW wind capacity addition at Rs 3.65/KWh. With 12,499 MW of total installed capacity—55 percent of which is renewable, JSW Energy continues to expand its green energy portfolio rapidly.
