JSW Group, led by Sajjan Jindal, is advancing its electric vehicle (EV) by negotiating potential partnerships with prominent Chinese automakers Geely and BYD. These collaborations aim to facilitate licensing agreements or technology transfers to establish a fully integrated mobility company. The partnership details are expected to be finalised by 2025.
The conglomerate’s EV strategy involves launching electric cars and e-trucks under the new JSW Green Mobility division. This initiative will leverage two platforms each for electric cars and commercial vehicles. Although JSW Green Mobility will operate independently, it is expected to synergize with JSW’s joint venture, JSW MG Motor India. Geely, known for owning Volvo Cars, along with a stake in Lotus Cars, and BYD, a growing EV player in India, are key targets in JSW’s collaboration efforts.
To support its EV plans, JSW Green Mobility has committed to a Rs 27,200 crore investment in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The project aims to produce 5,00,000 electric cars and 1,00,000 commercial vehicles annually. This manufacturing facility is part of seven projects approved by the Maharashtra Cabinet in September 2024. By leveraging synergies within the group and tapping into advanced EV technology, JSW aims to establish itself as a formidable player in both the electric passenger and commercial vehicle markets. This venture reflects JSW’s broader commitment to sustainability and innovation, aligning with global trends toward greener mobility solutions.
