JSW Infrastructure has received a letter of award (LoA) from the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority (Kolkata Port) for the reconstruction of Berth 8 and mechanisation of Berths 7 and 8 at the Netaji Subhas Dock.
Awarded under the design, build, finance, operate, and transfer (DBFOT) model through public-private partnership (PPP), the project carries a 30-year concession period. It is expected to enhance both capacity and operational efficiency at the port. The estimated capex is Rs 740 crore with a construction timeline of two years, though JSW Infra plans to commence partial operations during construction, capitalising on Kolkata’s cargo flow.
JSW Infrastructure already operates the New Mangalore Container Terminal on the west coast with a capacity of 0.2 million TEUs, currently being expanded to 0.35 million TEUs. The Kolkata project will raise JSW Infra’s total container handling capacity to nearly one million TEUs, reinforcing its position as a rising player in India’s port sector.
