Prime
Minister, Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, would be dedicating the Jamnagar-Loni pipeline
to the nation, on 9 May 2001, in a ceremony to be held at Ghaziabad in the Loni district in Uttar Pradesh.
The 1,240 km long pipeline, constructed
with an investment of Rs.1,250 crore, is the world’s longest LPG pipeline and is
promoted by Gas Authority of India Ltd.
The pipeline will help in providing 1.3
crore new LPG connections and establishing 2,000 new LPG agencies during
2001-02. The capacity of the pipeline is equivalent to 3.5 lakh standard LPG
cylinders. The pipeline would result in an annual saving of over Rs.500 crore in
diesel and other transportation costs.
The pipeline will have several bottling
plants en route such as Ajmer and Jaipur (Rajasthan), Pilayi (Haryana),
Madanpur Khader (Delhi) and Loni (Uttar Pradesh).
