Jindal Stainless, India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer, in collaboration with AB Energia Solutions, has inaugurated Odisha’s largest captive solar energy facility at its manufacturing plant in Jajpur.
The installation, which surpasses 30 MWp in capacity, features a 7.324 MWp floating solar plant and a 23.02 MWp rooftop system deployed across ten industrial buildings. Together, these systems are set to generate over 44.3 million units of electricity annually, significantly lowering the facility’s dependence on conventional grid power. This clean energy output is estimated to meet the annual electricity needs of up to 15,000 households and cut carbon dioxide emissions by approx. 32,208 tonne per year.
A highlight of the project is the floating solar component, which utilises an internal reservoir to transform previously unused water surfaces into energy-producing assets. The rooftop system, meanwhile, maximises available industrial roof space by operating across varied elevations. Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, Abhyuday Jindal, commented, “At Jindal Stainless, we’re accelerating our progress towards achieving our Net Zero goals and investing in sustainable infrastructure through strategic partnerships. The commissioning of Odisha’s largest captive solar energy plant at our Jajpur facility is a major leap in this journey. We are redefining the future of stainless steel manufacturing in India by integrating innovative renewable energy solutions and staying accountable to global sustainability standards.”
As the demand for low-carbon “green steel” increases globally, Jindal Stainless has committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050, with a planned Rs 700 crore investment in decarbonisation initiatives over the next five years, aligning with broader sustainability objectives championed by the Centre.
