NPCIL's Unit IV of Kaiga nuclear power station on 27 November 2010 commenced
power generation.
The 220 MWe power unit was set up at Kaiga in Uttara Kannada district of
Karnataka. BHEL was the consultant while Gammon India was the EPC contractor for
the project.
A total of three units with a capacity of 220 MWe each are already generating
electricity at the plant. Of the electricity produced by the units, 27 per cent
of the power is supplied to Karnataka and the rest is distributed among Tamil
Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry by the Central Electricity
Authority.
