The Nagpur Metro is likely to miss its December 2019 target due to problems in North-South-Corridor of Reach-2 (Sitabuldi to Automotive Square). The flyover will have an elevated road on first level and Metro on second level.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is yet to approve the design and estimate of the double decker flyover on Kamptee Road. The document for the same was submitted by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) a year earlier.
Maha-Metro is constructing the flyover on behalf of NHAI. However, the work on the flyover is progressing at a slow pace on one end. Moreover, MahaMetro has already spent Rs 100 crore on the Rs 750 crore flyover.
The project is facing a major hurdle due to land acquisition for constructing the 4.5 km flyover. MahaMetro requires around 4,000 sq mtr land near Gaddigodam Square for construction of the ramp of the structure.
As per NHAI norms, the agency does not acquire land inside municipal limits. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) was asked to bear the cost of acquisition of the land.
Moreover, NMC decided to seek funds from the state government under Nagar Utthan Yojana, wherein 30 percent will borne by civic agency while remaining 70 percent will be borne by the state government.
NHAI is yet to receive a letter from district collector assuring the state government’s share of 70 percent.
The Kamptee Road is 20 mtr wide at the place where the ramp will come up and Metro corporation needs 35 mtr. The column will occupy three mtr and the ramp will be 15 mtr wide.
As per NHAI norms, the service road besides the ramp needs to be 7.5 mtr on both sides, plus there needs to be a one mtr wide footpath on both sides.
The stretch of 150 mtr is needed to be acquired on Kamptee Road on both sides.
