The track doubling work between Kanniyakumari and Thiruvananthapuram is expected to be completed within the next two years.
Southern Railway's General Manager, R.N. Singh stated that the track doubling has already been finished between Kanniyakumari and Aalur, while more than 70 percent of the work is completed between Thiruvananthapuram and Parasala in Kerala. Once the work is finished, additional train services will be introduced along this stretch. Furthermore, the ongoing renovation of Kanniyakumari Railway Terminus will provide more space for new services.
After inspecting the work at Nagercoil Junction, Manager Singh urged his team to speed up the progress to ensure early completion. He also announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would flag off the Nagercoil–Mangalore Amrit Bharat Express on January 23 in Chennai. The train, a low-cost, non-air-conditioned sleeper service, will connect cities over 800 km apart, offering better travel options for passengers.
