The Karnataka government has unveiled plans to develop a new industrial hub and start-up ecosystem called SWIFT (Startups, Workspaces, Innovation, Finance and Technology) City, located near Sarjapur in Bengaluru. The project is aimed at enhancing Bengaluru's reputation or its start-up ecosystem, and to be one of the major industrial hubs in the city.
Karnataka Minister MB Patil stated that SWIFT City, spanning over 1,000 acres, will serve as a new hub for innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship, similar to established industrial areas like ITPL and Electronic City. SWIFT City will feature extensive infrastructure, including eight to 10 plug-and-play facilities, spanning 20 to 25 acres each. It will also have offices, co-working spaces, residential blocks, schools, and connecting roads that are 150 mtrs. wide.
The city will provide land parcels ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 sq. ft. for startups, available through lease, sale, or equity-sharing models. The strategic location near IT hubs and strong connectivity to National Highways-44 and 48 will further enhance its accessibility.
In addition to the SWIFT City, the Karnataka government has plans to replicate this model across the state, with five mini KWIN cities, including in Vijayapura and Hubballi-Dharwad, aiming to promote balanced growth. These plans will be discussed in greater detail during the upcoming Invest Karnataka Summit. SWIFT City follows the launch of KWIN City, a parallel initiative aimed at spreading growth beyond Bengaluru.
KWIN City, located about 60 km from the capital between Doddaspete and Doddaballapur, will cover 2,000 acres, and foster innovation and creating equal opportunities in all sectors. This would strengthen the state’s position as a hub for business and technological advancement.
