The Karnataka government has directed the preparation of a power evacuation scheme for the 2,000 MW Sharavati Pumped Storage project. The scheme will establish infrastructure to transmit generated power to a load centre through the grid.
Officials have assured compliance with guidelines from the Forest Department and the Wildlife Board, emphasising practicality in implementation. The project, along with a 2,000 MW solar park in Tumakuru district, will be developed under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) model, with private investors bidding under the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission's tariff structure. REC Power Development and Consultancy (RECPDCL) will coordinate the bidding process.
The government asserts the process will be transparent and completed within six months, but resistance from conservationists continues.
