The two international
airports at Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode will be expanded and a new
international airport will come up at Kannur in Kerala.
The state government
is currently identifying more land for the purpose. The airport at
Thiruvananthapuram will be developed in two phases. The first phase will be
spread over 27 acres and ready by December 2008. In the second phase, around 93
acres will be required. The state government will provide 137 acres for
development of Kozhikode airport and for the proposed new airport at Kannur
around 2,200 acres would be required.
The centre has
sanctioned Rs.245 crore for the first phase of the Thiruvananthapuram airport.
It will sanction another Rs.255 crore after the preparation of the master plan
for the second phase.
