The Railway Board has approved the construction of Kerala’s first railway station adjacent to Cochin International Airport in Nedumbassery.

Initially set to function as a halt station between Angamaly and Chowwara, it is expected to grow into a major hub due to its proximity to the airport. Railway officials anticipate increased passenger traffic, with many opting for train travel to avoid congestion. Once operational, the station will feature modern amenities and state-of-the-art design. The project will undergo fund allocation and tendering processes soon. The Railway Ministry, under Ashwini Vaishnaw, is overseeing the development.

Efforts are also underway to ensure seamless connectivity between the station and the airport for international travellers. Additionally, tour operators have suggested integrating local product stalls, such as handicrafts and food, to promote Kerala's culture and boost the tourism economy.
