By the end of 2027, residents in areas like Jodhpur Park, Lake Gardens, and parts of the EM Bypass near Avisikta will no longer rely on groundwater for drinking water.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is constructing two semi-underground water reservoirs and two new booster pumping stations to supply potable water. The Mandir Para Uttaran booster station will be supplied water from the Dhapa water treatment plant, while the Jodhpur Park station will source water from the Garden Reach plant. The goal is to reduce reliance on groundwater and provide safe drinking water directly from treatment plants. “We are searching for small plots in several parts of the Tollygunge-Jadavpur belt for small booster pumping stations,” said a KMC official.
Additionally, a 20 million-gallon water treatment plant at Dhapa is being constructed to meet growing demand. The mayor has urged officials to accelerate the process to ensure it’s operational within the next eight months.
