The administration is preparing for potential drinking water shortages due to proposed repairs at the Singur project by conducting a district-wide survey.
Collector P Pravinya explained that eight tmcft of water will be released from the reservoir, which currently holds 16 tmcft. Special teams from various departments, including Rural Water Supply, Mission Bhagiratha, and Panchayat Raj, have been tasked with assessing current water facilities and identifying vulnerable areas. The survey, scheduled from February 1 to 20, aims to address any shortages in advance.
The Collector emphasised the need to repair borewells and drill new ones in areas facing acute scarcity, especially in tribal regions and areas vulnerable to summer stress. “Though Mission Bhagiratha has resolved many issues, the fall in Singur’s water level could create new challenges,” she said, urging all departments to coordinate their efforts and address these issues promptly to avoid public hardship. Teams are already being organised to begin the survey.
