Konkan Railway Corporation (KRCL) plans to take up electrification and
doubling of certain patches at an investment of Rs 400 crore on BOT basis.
The electrification works are likely to be taken up from Palghat (Kerala) to
Mangalore (Karnataka) and on the other side from Panvel to Roha in Maharashtra.
The proposed work is likely to commence by 2011 with completion slated for 2013.
As per the plan, under the Phase I, KRCL will double the line from Roha to
Veer and later extend it to Chiplun. Plans are afoot to double the line ahead of
Chiplun. Also, the double line from Margao to Majorda will be extended to Verna
in Goa.
