The Coimbatore Corporation’s long-pending water supply improvement project for Kurichi and Kuniyamuthur has reached its final stage, with trial runs commencing after the completion of pipeline works across the Podanur Railway line.
This crucial development will facilitate the distribution of water from the Pilloor III scheme to residents of South Zone wards 99 and 100. A Corporation official highlighted that the project was launched in 2018 under the AMRUT scheme, with provisions for 18 overhead tanks in Kuniyamuthur and 21 tanks in Kurichi, covering wards 85 and 87 to 100. However, delays arose as the pipeline crossing the railway track took time to complete, forcing wards 99 and 100 to depend on the older Pilloor I scheme.
“Following the completion of the railway track crossing, water has been pumped into four tanks in Carmel Nagar, Mettur, and Anbu Nagar. Test runs are currently under way, and once these are completed, residents in the affected wards will receive water at intervals of two to three days,” the official confirmed.
