Larsen & Toubro Ltd on 23 May 2006
bagged the development rights for the 60 MW Singoli Bhatwari Hydroelectric Power
Project from the Government of Uttaranchal, amidst competition from other Indian
bidders.
L&T will develop the project,
valued at Rs.500 crore, on BOOT basis with a concession period of 45 years
(including construction period.) The project is located in Rudraprayag district
of Uttaranchal on Mandakini River, a tributary of the Ganga.
Although the company has executed
several hydropower projects in the past as a contractor, this is L&T's
maiden entry as a project developer.
The project involves design and
construction of a 20m high and 80m long barrage, 12 km headrace tunnel, surface
powerhouse, substation and a 12 km long 132 kV transmission line. Francis
turbines will be used to generate 361 million units of energy in a 90 per cent
dependable year.
The detailed project report is under
preparation and the project development and implementation agreement will soon
be signed with the Uttaranchal government.
