Western Railway and the Palghar collectorate have started the process of land acquisition by taking over properties for the fifth and sixth lines from Borivali to Virar. A hundred and twenty-two properties will have to be acquired in Vasai tehsil, and the process has already begun.
The project is on the Western Railway corridor and the cost is Rs 2,184.02 crore. It is being executed by the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC). The estimate, designs and drawings have been sanctioned, drone survey completed, important major and minor bridges approved and the alignment finalised.
In the first week of August, the Railways published an advertisement for acquiring properties in Divanman, Achole, Navghar, Manikpur and Umela. Some of these plots have housing societies on them while some are agricultural land. The contract for the construction of the service building and quarters is already awarded. The construction of a relay room at Mira Road, signal office, tool room, RRI building and Railway Protection Force Barrack at Dahisar, the station building at Naigaon and the railway quarters at Vasai Road and Bhayander are in progress.
The work of relocation of structures is in progress, while modification/extension of foot over bridges (FOBs) and platforms, awarded in two lots in February have commenced. The lines are expected to relieve stress on the fast corridor, to be used exclusively for suburban trains.
