The GVK consortium-led Mumbai
International Airport has re-worked the original master plan for upgradation of
the airport.
The major change proposed is to have
one integrated terminal at Sahara airport, instead of the original plan to have
one terminal at Sahar for international and domestic traffic and the other at
Santacruz for domestic passengers.
Work on the proposed terminal is
likely to begin by July 2007 and will be implemented in phases. The fully
functional terminal will have a capacity to handle 40 million passengers. The
original plan was to set up Sahar terminal with a capacity to handle 30 million
passengers and the Santacruz facility with 12 million passengers.
By December 2007, MIAL plans to begin
construction of the connector building between Domestic Terminals 1A and 1B, new
aerobridges and transit facilities.
