MIC Electronics has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Singapore-based TOP2 to accelerate India’s semiconductor ecosystem by enabling domestic wafer production.
Under the pact, TOP2 will help MIC identify and finalise a Taiwanese fabrication partner, with plans to begin production of 25,000–30,000 wafers per month in India. The collaboration is strategically significant as India pushes to reduce dependence on imports and strengthen local chip-making capacity. Access to proven wafer lines offers a cost-efficient and time-saving alternative to greenfield fab projects.
MIC will work with TOP2 on technical requirements, partner negotiations, and operational readiness, positioning itself as a competitive global player. TOP2 has already facilitated silicon wafer production lines for three Indian companies in 2025 and aims to bring two to three additional lines annually, aligning with surging demand from EVs, 5G, AI, and consumer electronics. Its partnership with MIC combines research, partner linkages, and execution support, marking a crucial step in India’s semiconductor roadmap.
