The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has installed a 58-mtrs.-long, 450- tonne steel span over the Pantnagar-Ghatkopar bus stand in Ghatkopar East, marking significant progress on Metro Line 4 between Wadala and Kasarvadavli.
Built from five steel girders, the 3.1-metre-high span was hoisted over two nights to avoid commuter disruption, despite heavy rains, space constraints near Somaiya nullah, and busy traffic on the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road. Two cranes of 700 and 500 tonne, plus standby cranes of 500 and 80 tonne, were deployed, with over 100 workers, safety staff, engineers, and 50 traffic wardens involved.
The 32.3 km Metro Line 4 is 84.5 percent complete, with remaining works including track laying, systems, and station interiors. The span will carry elevated tracks and form part of a viaduct, integrating the route into Mumbai’s metro network. Delays had occurred due to land acquisition issues and pandemic impacts.
