Mumbai Metro One is likely to witness an increase in ridership with the commissioning of two new Metro lines - 2A and 7, scheduled for commencement this month.
The interchange stations at Andheri west of Line 2A and Gundavali in Andheri East of Line 7 will connect with the existing Line One at DN Nagar and WEH stations respectively. These two stations are expected to draw strong passenger flow and hence increased ridership in the corridor. As per MMRDA, the two new upcoming lines are expected to cater to nearly three lakh commuters daily once it is fully commissioned. Currently, the 20-km stretch between Aarey and Dhanukarwadi Phase 1 of these two new lines is operational and witnesses an average daily ridership of 25,000.
Ghatkopar, the busiest station in Metro Line One has a daily ridership of 1.10 lakh commuters.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the Navi Mumbai Metro Line Phase 1 (Central Park and Belapur stations) on 19 January, 2023. The commissioning of Lines 2A & 7 may take place during this visit.
